I do a Windows Desktop Search and try to tag some of the results. When I click on "Quick tag this" or "Edit tags", I get "The following item is not supported for tagging" for a few of the files I selected.

They usually include dots, spaces or underscores in their names. After I change the names of these items by removing special characters, I can tag them. Then, I change them back by putting back the special characters; I can again tag them. This is inconsistent behavior.

Strangely, this is particular to the Windows Desktop Search window. For regular Windows Explorer window, this does not happen.

I tried to get a low level debug to see what is going on, I do not know how. The default level of the debug is too high; it recorded nothing out of all these operations. Also on Vista, the log file is under "Program Files" by default and the user cannot change the location. For somebody who enabled UAC, it is cumbersome to get a log.

Hi,

the most probable reason for this is that you try to tag files that reside on a FAT32 location from the WDS window.

Regarding logging, at the moment there is no way to change the log level. But this and the location of the log file is a good idea for improvement.

Best regards,
Martin

No, the file system is NTFS. The system is 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium SP2.
