I deleted a folder which contained tagged items, the recycle bin is empty.  They still display on the search page.  Clicking to open the file says the file does not exist, editing the tags says failed to apply tags to file, file or directory does not exist, the button "remove from list" is grayed out, refreshing has not helped, restarting has not helped, restarting my computer has not helped, uninstalling tag2find and reinstalling has not helped.  There seems to be no way for me to remove these deleted files from tag2find.  I can't find any answers in browsing the support pages so I thought I should ask.

Thank you for your help.   Wink

Have you tried "Clear All" button?

We're having a conversation over the course of weeks which is somewhat humorous.  Yes, I've tried the clear all button.  I imagine that I've tried everything and I wonder if it's not a question in the attributes of the program or if it's a question of a bug.  I'm seriously doubting that it's meant to do this under any circumstances and it's simply not working as it's supposed to.  It still has those tagged items, oh boy!  Is there a file I can delete that contains the database of all tagged items?  I'd rather start over than put up with 200+ tagged items that lead nowhere, it really gums up searches which makes much of the program worthless which is sad it looks like a great program.

although I don't know if it would help much here's an image of the error message.  You can also see the grayed out Remove From List button on top (the clear all does nothing as I described).  It's mostly being used as a way to catalogue my comic books but I decided to delete all the pictures except the one in question.  As you can see it's a picture of nothing, the file simply no longer exists.

Lol it's funny. How about this? You export the database. Then tag2find will make a .xml file which contains all the information. Then you can manually EDIT the .xml file with any text editor and get rid of those tags associated to the deleted files. And then you import the edited .xml file, overwriting exist database. I think it should work as long as you don't change the file locations in between.

Oh! Actually I think you might not even have to edit the .xml file. When importing database, tag2find is supposed to ignore any tag item if the original file does not exist anymore. So if you just export the database and import it, I think those files will be gone in the database. Let me know if it works.

That worked perfectly.  It said 252 files were ignored when importing the files back into the database.  Genius man, pure genius.

I owe you something.  How about a cookie?

edit: hold off on that cookie.  While your idea sounded great and useful it didn't work as I hoped.  Those files are still there exactly as before.  Sigh ......

I think you should try to get rid of existing database after exporting. If the tags on the deleted files are already in the database when you do the importing, I think that will remain. So I think exporting -> delete current database -> importing should work.

Hope this is helpful.

ps. By the way, further development of tag2find has stopped?

Hi,

no, it has not.

Have you tried selecting "Check database for files..." from the context menu? In this case ,the database should realize that the file no longer exists. If it doesn't, you'll really have to go the way with exporting the files, stopping the service, deleting the master database, starting the service, re-importing tags.

Sorry for the very late answer. I have been ill this week and been kept away from the computer and the time before was very stressful.

Best regards,
Martin

Before deleting the tagged files you should have to remove tags from them.
It is showing errors due to those tags.
Anyways now you can try for clear all, also delete the cookies.
