Checking files eats too much CPU time

When first installing tag2find, the checking files phase eats up enormous CPU. Is there anyway to turn it into a background process and adjust the CPU time so one could just let it do its think during idle cpu/system time or when you are away from the computer? I have a lot of files, and it would take way too long if I let it check the files when it first installs, I'd have to leave it overnight most likely.
