Hi,

I've only just recently discovered your tool, and it looks promising. I have a few questions (did run a search over at the forum)

You mentioned a "scrubber" tool in a post that would clean the files and remove all the tags added using tag2find. Is this is available yet? I think the only option right now is to remove it file by file through the interface (clicking on a minus symbol that I haven't found yet.) Right now I hate the idea to have superfluous data attached to a file, rendered useless because I uninstalled tag2find. I realize I need to read up on "forks" and ADS, concepts I'm unfamiliar with right now.

Do you fully support all existing metadata, like EXIF, IPTC, XMP and ID3? By this I mean at least read it and index it in your local database. I intend to tag my pictures using a dedicated tool (iTag), mp3tag for audio files etc. Regarding ID3 you were wondering what tag to include. Couldn't you leave that choice up to the user? Artist, album and genre are obvious choices, but personally I'd like theme, mood and style (AllmusicGuide.com is my reference and I pull that data from there.) This is my biggest concern, taking advantage of info that is already there.

I can live with having to reformat my drives in NTFS, but I have a NAS (a Western Digital MyBook World ed) that has ext3 partitions. Sadly, this is the drive I intend to use for storing pdfs and other documents. Music and Pictures are on drives I attach to PC directly.

Anyway, I wish you all the best with this interesting piece of software.

Hi,

sorry, we never came around releasing the "scrubber" yet. Hopefully in the future (as we are in the process of restructuring ourselfes, we do not have a timeplan at the moment, sorry.). I like the name, though Smiley

Support for metadata is currently very experimental and likely not useful at all (sorry about that).

The only currently supported file-system is NTFS, this is due to the technical limitations regarding metadata and the specific implementation of our file tracking algorithm. Maybe once we open-source the system, maybe someone could write something for ext3? Smiley

Best regards,
Martin

Thanks for your fast reply, d'you work 24/7? Smiley

When you write "... and likely not useful at all", do you mean it isn't fully functional yet because, as you write, it is experimental and thus not useful for the moment. Or do you believe that indexing existent metadata isn't usefull and tag2find will most likely never support IPTC etc?

Love the open-source idea...

Hi,

no, I'm not working 24/7, but I just happened to hang around the forum anyways Smiley

Not useful at all means that it produces results, but it is highly unlikely to produce results you like. Just give it a try, it won't do anything unless you save the suggested tags. Add files via the "File" menu and you will be guided by a wizard which will allow you to chose which ways for deriving tags are used.

Best regards,
Martin

I didn't realize that the (financial) plug has been pulled on the project. Do now though, and that is sad news.
So far, I don't see that much competition in this field. Maybe TagLauncher? But I couldn't get the demo to run (it said that the trial period had already expired  Huh  Grin.)

I still need to read up on this whole ADS thing, but I'll be back with more questions Smiley

All the best!
