I tried searching the forum for a similar report, but found none, so here goes.

It installed perfectly, but the service (3rd step when installing) failed.  I get the following message, even when I try to run the service directly from the "Services"

"failed upgrading to schema: Unable to open the database file
unable to open database file"

Hi,

it seems the tag database got corrupted. Did you have a previous version of tag2find installed?

You can try the following (but you will lose all current tags): Open "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\tag2find\" and move the files to a different location. Then try starting the service again and it should builld up a fresh database.

Please don't delete the files you move from the above directory, because they contain all tag-data (except the tags stored in the Alternate Data Streams). Once you did this, drag & drop all files you know you taged to the Tag Manager and chose "Check for tags" from the context menu.

Best regards,
Martin

That was ultra FAST....thanx..

Well, I forgot to mention 2 things:

First, it's the first time for me to try the software

Second, I chose to place the database in a different folder location:
e:\My Stuff\_My Documents\

I hope this helps

Hi,

oh, reviewing your error I have another idea: is E:\ a NTFS volume? If so, please make sure that "Local System" has read/write permissions for the location you chose for storing the database files. You should also add a "tag2find" subfolder. Please note that the location will be filled with files you should not directly tamper with, please leave them alone :-)

Best regards,
Martin

Ok, I uninstalled the app, restarted the system and re did the installation and this time to the default location:
E:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\tag2find\db

And I did as you said and changed the NTFS file permissions..It gave me the same error message.

Hmm, I am a little bit out of ideas. I will think over it and come back to you as soon as I get some idea.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Best regards,
Martin
