Just a thread for people to post their first impressions of Tag2Find...
I'll go first,
I like it a lot. I like the idea, and it does make searching for items a heck of a lot easier once you do the initial tagging of items. Yes, it is a bit rough around the edges right now, but it shows tremendous possibilities. Keep up the great works guys.
I found Tag2Find via the TechCrunch article (http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/12/29/tag-your-desktop-stuff-with-tag2find/) by the way.

Hi,
thank you for starting this thread. We really appreciate it!
You mention the initial tagging: this is a very important issue to us. We plan to release (at least basic) initial tag suggestions for your existing files with our next release, which we scheduled for around mid-January 2007.
Best regards, Martin
PS: I'm currently on holidays and I am writing this from a public terminal in the office lounge right now. So please be patient with my responses, as I only have minor Internet access at the moment. I (and the rest of the team) will be back in office on January 3rd. You can expect much faster responses from us then.

Yes, initial tagging would be a good thing. It helps you in the beginning because you already have your tagged files based on your file structure.

I have just applied to be part of the Beta and will have to wait till I get my hands on the product, but I really like the idea and like what I have seen in the screen shots.
Eagerly awaiting my chance to give it a go. I really like the tagging concept and am disappointed that it is not part of any operating system. But I guess that makes for a great third part app, eh? ;-)

how will tag2find work when one needs to reformat or migrate to another pc. Is it as simple as moving the database file? Is any of the information stored in the file itself?

The current version of tag2find does not support backup/recovery. We wanted to bring out the preview as soon as possible. You can recover if you have the database file and if all files are in the same location by using the TagBrowser and loading all files and selecting "Check database for file" in the context menu.
Of course, we will add backup/export functionality as soon as possible. The feature-set for v0.10 is not yet fixed, but I expect this functionality will be part of it.
Regarding your first question: yes, additional data is attached to a tagged file. We use so called "Named Streams" of NTFS, so this data will only be copied if you copy to another NTFS volume.
Best regards, Martin

great system, one initial annoyance is the floating bar, you cant move it. But great product, the best thing about the system i think is the fact that you can search within tags for other tags. Looking forward to more

REALLY appreciate the idea, i LOVE tagging. There's a couple of thing concerning the interface that leave me a bit puzzled. First of all, the impossibility of moving the bar, then, personally I found bar and searching graphic a little invasive, I think one of the most important feature of a tool like Tag2Find should be the quickness KEEP THE GOOD WORK! And thanks for joinin me in beta

Hi,
thanks for your feedback. The floating TagBar is moveable, just click on drag the orange tag.
Directly after installation there might be an issue with the focus. Try clicking on some other application or the desktop first.
If you refer to not being able to move the integrated toolbar in the taskbar and explorer, please make sure that "Lock the Taskbar" / "Lock the Toolbars" is not checked. This is an Explorer issue which refers to all toolbars, not just tag2find.
If I misunderstood your statement, please tell me. If you, after closing and reopening the floating TagBox (double-click on the orange tag next to the clock to toggle visibilty) still can't move the TagBox my dragging the orange Tag on the left of the bar, then please tell me as this would be a very critical bug.
Best regards, Martin

Thanks for supplying the new Version 0[1].8.3.2-32bit today!
For this is my first installation of tag2find, I guess I had a good start - with no problems on install (using Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 with all recommeded updates).
Although I tagged only 16 items by now, I find it working great!
A little odyssey occured to me after opening the "tag files" popup from "tag2find toolbar" - I had to spend some time until I found that only the "cancel" option can close this window - I had expected the windows-like "X" somewhere...
Off topic problem: clicking through your homepage, all the videos didn't like to show up - it was some investigation until I found out that I need a "tscc" codec to have 'em display.
Overall, it's a great tool - hope it sells...
Yours, roger

Hi,
thanks for the feedback, it's nice to hear such positive words!
Additional to clicking "cancel" you can also simply use the "Esc" key to close the popup. I agree with you that we have to make things like this more intuitive.
We are currently spending quite some time on working through feedback like yours and deciding in how to realize all these things and how we are going to proceed. We will keep you updated on how we will go on.
Also thank you for pointing out the video issue. I'll inform our website team immediately on Monday and they will for sure fix this as soon as possible. One further question: Does this only apply to the downloadable AVI videos or also for the embedded Flash videos in the "Learn more" section?
Best regards, Martin

Hi martin, thank's for answering on weekends... Does this only apply to the downloadable AVI videos or also for the embedded Flash videos in the "Learn more" section? I experienced the video problem in the "tag it!" section of your homepage. Trying to view any of the eight downloadable videos on http://www.tag2find.com/videos.0.html none of my players (windows media, real, etc.) could automatically retrieve the codec it needed. After running an analyzer program that identified the codec, it was easy to google where to get it from, download and install it. (Can't give details now, for I'm at home now and did the testing on another system) roger
