Author Topic: Processing seems too slow for large amounts of data  (Read 2013 times)

I'm much impressed with tag2find but have run into major problems.

1) the indexing of directories with large numbers of files, upward to 80,000 takes at least overnight
2) after removing some tags--that too is sluggish--it takes over an hour to apply the changes
3)this processing requires so much memory and processing resources, I'm unable to do much but use a web browser.

Perhaps I'm trying to go well beyond what the program was designed to do.

Is tag2find designed for small amounts of data/files? What are the realistic limits in terms of MB for speedy indexing and retrieval?

I'm asking it to deal with about 3 GB of data, and that seems well beyond its capacity.

Thanks,

Robert Schwartz

Hi,

unfortunately the current Technical Preview is too slow for large amounts of file. Its the number of files not the size of the files that matters. We are aware of the issue and we will redesign the file tracking algorithms (thats what it makes so slow at the moment) and re-implement it from scratch to deal with this problem.

We are sorry for the inconvenience, tag2find is far from being optimal and what we want to achieve as the final result, especially regarding performance. We will work hard on this until we leave Technical Preview stage. At the moment we just wanted to show the world what we are doing and get some opinion and feedback about this.

Best regards,
Martin
