Sorry to come back to this one, but tag2find has been "updating database" for over 3 hours now and it has done this "long period" indexing several times. I usually have to close the program to free memory for other programs, or just simply to get rid of the scrolling green bar.

I do have several monitoring programs - folder watchers,  cd/dvd drive watchers, virus scanner, etc, so is it possible that they are coonflicting or something?

As tag2find couldn't be used to find files - as it was still "updating" - I reinstalled Copernic, but it just doesn't seem to be indexing after the initial full index. I can try searching Copernic for files I know to exist - or even generic ogg, mp3, etc -  but get zero results. Sad

Tag2find can find the files Smiley  but won't stop indexing.   Sad
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Hi Clancolin,
starting to use tag2find only yesterday, I found it annoying to have the "updating database" window pop up unexpectedly. It's o.k. to be informed when tag2find does the update, but I would prefer an unobtrusive flicker of the tag2find symbol in the task bar. On the other hand, on my system "updating database" occurs temporarily for some seconds only. I guess the tag2find service is trying to keep track of the NTFS Change Journal (mainly while my VirusScan software does it's automatic update). It could be interesting for the developer crew, which software on your system permanently tampers with this NTFS-log... (or maybe they already know?)

Sorry for interfering with your thread,
have a fine weekend,
roger

Hi to you both,

@Clancolin: it really seems that our file tracking conflicts with some anti-virus programs out there, therefore we decided to re-write this component from scratch, but unfortunately this will take some time, but we are trying our best!

@Clancolin and roger: you can deactivate the notification in the options, on the "Advanced" tab, unchecking the "Notify on busy service" options.

I think we will realize roger's idea of displaying this busy state using the notification icon.

Thank you all for your feedback! We will do our best to eliminate these issues as soon as possible.

Best regards & also have a nice weekend,
Martin

Thanks for both replies.

Martin, I do appreciate the work going into this program and I am sticking with it! I'm glad you have recognised the anti-virus conflict and I'm confident you will sort it. I knew about turning off the notification, but I was trying to see what caused the notification to start and if it ever would stop. I've given up now and have turned off the notification.

Roger, I too would like to know which software permanently tampers with this NTFS-log because - whatever it is - I'm sure it shouldn't be doing it  :x  . It is difficult to pin down though - if only there were a few more days in each week.  Smiley

Hi Clancolin,
I found out a lot of what is happening on my system simply by running the Sysinternals Process Explorer (available from Microsoft homepage, search for "Process Explorer") once and again. As a consequence of that, I even deactivated Nero's InCD for I didn't like it's polling all the time...

Bye for now,
roger
