I'm getting crashes associated with something called Metadata Manager.

Windows XP produces an error popup stating Metadata Manager has to close, then my PC crashes a little after sending the error report.

My questions are these, "Is  Metadata Manager part of Tag2Find and if so, why is it now failing?".

Apologies if Metadata Manager is nothing to do with Tag2Find, but  I have never seen this error report before installing Tag2Find and a Google search on "Metadata Manager" was unhelpful.

Hi,

Thanks for your question. There is no component called "Metadata Manager" in tag2find, I'm sorry I'm not aware of which software this belongs.

I will investigate and see if I can find out anything about this and come back to you. As I am not aware of the software I am sorry that at the moment I cannot tell about possible compatibility issues.

Just for guessing in the blind, based on the name of the component: do you have any desktop search engine installed on your PC?

Best regards,
Martin

Thanks for the reply Martin. I'm beginning to think that this Metadata Manager imaybe something to do with music.

I have 2 programs -  MediaMonkey and Creative's " Sniffer" - that "watch" specific folders containing music files. I think they are becoming activated when music files are tagged, because the Metadata Manager hasn't appeared for 2 days now - about the same amount of time I haven't been tagging music files.

I'll let you know if any problems occur.

Thank you for the pointer. I will investigate in this direction. If the programs are activated by file changes, they could be triggered by tagging the files.

Best regards,
Martin

Clancolin, found the following on microsoft homepage concerning installable file system (IFS) - maybe it's a hint:
Quote
MetaDataManager, a minifilter that flushes private metadata when volumes dismount or the system shuts down

Roger,

Thank you for that.

I think this may have been part of Microsoft's (fairly new) USB key manager software which I had installed.

The program allows you to backup  and synch USB key data and rename the key to something more memorable. I use U3-type keys, which do mount/unmount and erase data when removed from the USB port, so this looks a likely suspect.

I uninstalled this program about a week or so ago, so hopefully the problem has gone away too.

Thanks again,

Colin
