Hi,
I've been tagging my content for about ten years now, and have always used acdsee v2.41.
The metadata on each file is stored in a text file in the same directory called descript.ion.
What's nice about this is that I have programmatic access to the data allowing me to carve it up any way I want.

Tag2find hasn't inspired me yet to switch from the current system that I use.
As a recommendation you can check out acdsee's latest beta release at http://www.acdseepro.com/ for some ideas.

This app currently supports these features: tag, rate, caption, custom categories, autocategories, filtering, favorites, search on any attribute plus many more ways to organize one's content.

The problem with any recent version of acdsee after the 2.41 is the high cpu usage, slow response time in switching between folders, and lockin of your metadata into their proprietory database.

I hope tag2find can take content management to the next level.

Hi,

thanks you for the hint with acdsee. We will take a look or two too compare tag2find and acdsee.

Why doesn't tag2find inspire you to switch? Only for the reason that you can not manipulate tags manually? Or are there other reasons? So please, feel free to tell us those reasons. This will help us to improve tag2find and adapt it to the users requirements.

Best regards,

I'll be glad to let you know why.
I was looking at the screenshots that were posted on your blog of the newest version to come out.
I'll wait for that version to be available then I'll take a few days of using it to get a good feel of its usability.
Then I'll post some detailed observations.

For some quick thoughts though:
I probably have a few hundred thousand files of content that is taggable, mostly:
-images
-music and audio books
-video, screencasts, courses
-ebooks, pdfs etc
-bookmarks
-install files (I take notes on if I've installed a software and if I uninstalled it, the reason for)
-development frameworks and open source code.

Tagging is a repetative task, we're always acquiring new content, so the count of keyboard strokes, or clicks must be minimal.
And an action should not require a combination of keyboard and mouse, it should be all of one or the other to accomplish the task.

The number one best feature you can have is performance.
If there's a perceivable delay in the performing of a repetative task, ie in the tagging of the content, then people will simply stop tagging, and not use the application.

In the same topic, I wonder how how does tag2find compare to "tagg"? (A similar app, it seems...)

Regards,

A.
