File Type Tagging

What i think would be really useful is file type type tagging, so if i wanted to tag all my .php file with the tag "php files", i could set tag2find to do it automatically.

File type searches are sure to come. We are still discussing the syntax, but the current proposal will be something like
Code:
mytag, type:pdf
or
Code:
anothertag, justatag, type:image
to search for all PDFs which are tagged "mytag" (sample 1), or all images (JPEG, PNG, BMP, etc.) that have both, "anothertag" and "justatag".
Best regards,
Martin

If I understood RagingAsian correctly, he meant something like defining a default set of suggested tags for a given file type. Speaking in more general terms, have the user define tuples of the form <condition, tag>, which could look like the following:
<file:php, php>
<file:php, source>
<file:php, development>
edit:
Needless to say that this is not the level of abstraction that should be presented to the user ;P. Also, take it with a grain of salt, as this is a mere intuitive evaporation of my mind-machine, and nowhere near being thought through.
When tagging a .php file (i.e., one that matches condition "file:php"), the given (user-defined) tags are suggested by default.
Similarly, when tagging a .mp3 file (or any other filetype with standardized meta-info attached), the ID1/ID2 tags of given file could be added to the "Suggested Tags" list.

Your suggestion provides a nice extension to what I understood in RagingAsian's comment. I like it. And yes, of course it must be more user-friendly than what you say.
Using existing meta-data is of course the way to go.

Martin

Is the tag/metadata work being done in XML ?
Because that would make any changes in the beta easier to implement.
I just started reading up on XML and...

At the moment we use not XML here, as it did not satisfy our performance requirements.
What's likely being XML is the backup/recovery part, to allow interoperability and to give you as our users the security that your tags are not "locked in" in our software, if you'd ever decide to switch away from us (which we hope you'll never do ;-)).
Best regards,
Martin
