lots of users (including me) would like to use tga2find on removable storages.
Will you make some features for them?
Will you support Ceedo?

Sorry I already found answer about removable devices. But still will you support ntfs removable devices if't easier?
And will you support Ceedo or something to keep db and soft on removable drive?

Hi,

I just learned about Ceedo from your posting here, at first look it looks very interesting. Adding support for mobile devices will be an important issue for us to work on. I cannot comment on the time-schedule and release policy about this yet. But we won't forget our mobile user's! Wink

Best regards,
Martin

It would be really cool if information about files could be kept in files somehow, but as far as it's hardly possible you can save this info in some files  in the same folder like:

I have 2 files in my folder:

1.exe
2.exe

and 3rd file in the folder could be description file

.tag2find

which would say what tags are assigned to 1.exe and 2.exe.
So you could have distributed description system. Of cause you can scan all this info in background process to speed up search, you can make some indexes upon this description files. But it's definately the way it should be.

For example, earlier we had a lot of album makers like adobe album. But they all failed because they kept metainfo about photos in there's own database. It doesn't make users happy at all.
Take a look and Picasa it stores all the info in Picasa.ini file in folders. Of cause picasa makes indexies etc, but having Picasa.ini is enough to describe photos in the folder.

I'm sure it's a very good thing to think of for your soft, to make it really useful, basause one main database is a really nasty place for keeping information.

Hi, the idea itself is very valid, it has only one problem: it will not work if the file is moved/renamed. Well, maybe it would, it would require to update the ".tag2find" file as well.

At the moment, the tags are also available from an NTFS Alternate Datastream (thats one of the reasons we require NTFS as well), so it is not only in the central database.

We will definitely keep your suggestion in close consideration. Thanks for it!

Best regards,
Martin

Because file access is slow Wink No, seriously, it is quite a performance impact if you have to open a lot of files. Still I like this option and we will take it into close consideration.
